You’ve played a few games. Maybe with a friend, maybe at your local club. You’re not new to the hobby, but you’re still not entirely sure what’s happening on the table half the time, and that’s starting to hold you back from enjoying it.

The Vanguard Tactics Beginners Workshop is built for exactly that stage: not for someone who’s never picked up a rulebook, but for someone who’s dipped a toe in and wants solid ground under their feet before they go any further.

Why This Workshop Is Perfect for You

Not Your First-Ever Game: Your First Real Foundation
This isn’t a “what is Warhammer 40k” introduction. It’s for players who’ve made a start, playing casually with friends or at a local club, but haven’t quite got to grips with the rules yet. We meet you where you are and build from there.

Understand Every Phase, Not Just “Move and Hope”
Right now, a lot of your game might come down to moving your models as far as they’ll go and hoping for the best. We’ll walk through every phase of the game, movement, shooting, charging, fighting, so you understand what’s actually happening and why, not just what button to press.

Learn to Write a Balanced List (Before You Learn Bad Habits)
We’ll cover the fundamentals of building a balanced army list and what different units are actually for, so you’re not carrying bad list-building habits into every future game.

A Guided, Low-Pressure Way to Learn
This workshop is more theory and demonstration than head-to-head play. You’ll be shown clear examples on the tabletop and walked through them in a relaxed Q&A style, not thrown into a full game and left to figure it out under pressure.

What You’ll Need

Nothing but yourself and a willingness to learn. Because this workshop is built around guided tabletop examples and demonstrations rather than full practice games, you won’t need to bring:

• Dice

• A tape measure

Everything you need to learn is shown to you on the table by your coach.

Format

This is a guided, discussion-led workshop, closer to a Q&A walkthrough than a games night. You’ll see tabletop examples demonstrated in front of you and have the space to ask questions as they come up, without the pressure of playing a full game yourself.

➡ This workshop is aimed at players who’ve already had a few games, with friends or at a local club, but want to firm up the fundamentals. If you’ve truly never played, [get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction].

❓ Do I need to bring an army?
➡ No. Everything is taught using tabletop examples provided by your coach.

❓ Will I be playing a full game during this workshop?
➡ No, this workshop is theory- and example-led rather than a full practice game. That’s what makes it lower-pressure and easier to absorb.

❓ What if I already know some of this?
➡ That’s fine, the workshop is designed to solidify fundamentals, and most players walk away with at least a few things that click that hadn’t before.
