Before Your First Game
Due to the manufacturing and packaging process, your FLG Mat may require up to 4 weeks to fully relax after delivery. Slight variations in size and color are normal and are a natural result of production.
If your mat arrives with wrinkles or creases from shipping, the following methods can help restore a smooth playing surface.
Removing Wrinkles & Creases
Most shipping wrinkles and creases can be reduced with gentle steam and time.
Method 1: Steam & Roll
- Lay your mat flat with the image side facing up, then cover the surface with a thin sheet or towel.
- Using an iron on a medium to high steam setting, gently warm the covered mat to help the neoprene become more flexible. Keep the protective fabric between the iron and the mat at all times.
- Once warmed, roll the mat tightly with the image side facing outward.
- Leave it rolled in a warm, sunny location for 1 to 2 days before unrolling and checking the surface.
Method 2: Steam & Flatten
For stubborn creases, follow the same covered steam-heating method, then lay the mat flat and place books or other evenly distributed, flat weights over the affected areas for a couple of days.
For Minor Wrinkles
Small wrinkles may settle naturally over time. Simply lay the mat flat, image side up, and use flat weights if needed.
Important: Never place a hot iron directly on the printed surface or exposed neoprene. Use a protective sheet or towel, keep the iron moving, and avoid prolonged or excessive heat that could damage the print or material. Allow the mat to cool before handling or storing.
Cleaning & Storage
Routine Cleaning
Use warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth to gently clean your mat. Avoid bleach, abrasive scrubbing, and harsh cleaning chemicals. Use only cleaning products safe for colored fabrics.
Drying
Allow your mat to air dry completely before rolling or storing. If needed, use a hair dryer on a low setting to help speed up drying, keeping it moving and away from direct contact with the mat.
Storage
Roll your mat with the image side facing outward and store it in a clean, dry location. Avoid sharp folds, heavy objects pressing into the rolled mat, and prolonged exposure to excessive heat.
